School parking – NOT ENFORCED IN THE HOLIDAYS!

A Resident contacted us to ask if the “School parking enforcement – The school street scheme” is applicable in school holidays, as She wanted to visit her friend near Branfil Primary School this half term. (Hylands Primary & Squirrels Heath Infant and Junior Schools are also in this scheme)

It is not clear from the signage, and obviously, She didn’t want to get a ticket!

This is the sign at Hylands Primary

Cllr Middleton kindly asked the relevant department at the Council for me, and the following was added on the Havering website

https://www.havering.gov.uk/info/20004/parking/121/parking_tickets_and_traffic_fines/5

“A school street is a road outside a school with a temporary restriction on motorised traffic at school drop-off and pick-up times.
The restriction does not apply outside of term time or during bank holidays.
If school holidays are extended due to the Coronavirus pandemic the restriction will not be in operation for the extended holiday period.
The restriction applies to school traffic and through traffic. The result is a safer, healthier and pleasant environment for everyone.
School street schemes offer a proactive solution for school communities to tackle air pollution, poor health and road danger reduction.
A school street scheme will encourage a healthier lifestyle and active travel to school for families and lead to a better environment for everyone.”

So, you can park without fear of a fine in the school holidays, as long as you adhere to the rest of the parking regulations.
