Hylands Park Community Fun Day

The Hornchurch Residents’ Association were amongst the many stalls available to peruse when The Friends of Hylands Park group put on their 3rd community Funday at the end of May Bank Holiday Monday, with the ever successful Woofs & Walkies Dog Show having their best day so far.

The fun day was very busy with JumpinJacks from Dagenham stepping in with a host of inflatables, making for lots of happy parents. If the kids didn’t have red enough faces from all that bouncing, they were covered in excellent face painting as ever from Bugz & Butterflies, with Wellgate Community Farm providing the calming influence of a dozen or so animals to pet and hold.
Nic Dodin who presides over the Havering Classic Car Club did us proud yet again, with 20 or so very shiny cars and lots of proud owners, which was a great sight to see, drawing lots of interest from the crowds.  If only they knew the trouble Nic had to get to the fun day…….His fan-belt snapped on the way back from a Dorset trip that morning, and Nic changed it on the hard shoulder of the M3, apparently, on an old Austin this means removing & refitting the radiator as well! (Rather him than me)
The licensed bar at Hornchurch Athletic Cricket Club provided some welcome refreshment and the ‘mini event’ they put on once the funday had finished, danced and sang along till just after 8pm.

The Woofs & Walkies Dog Show organiser, Graeme Turner, was beaming when I asked how his day went, saying “The third Hylands Park Dog Show was more popular than ever.  Nearly all the classes were well supported with an average of thirty entrants in each class.  The overall winner of Best in Show was a St. Bernard “Bentley” owned by a very proud Debbie Davidson. Everyone seemed to have a lovely time and the Judge Nick Briggs from Vets4Pets has already asked if he can be the judge again next year as he thoroughly enjoyed himself.  Here’s looking forward to 2020.”

I would like to thank all our Friends and Volunteers who made it such a fantastic day, and for Hornchurch Fire Station letting the kids have a good old climb around and offering Fire Safety advice to all.

Any pictures of the day submitted to will be put on our website hylandspark.org.uk or Friends of Hylands Park on facebook, and will be entered into the ‘Best Picture’ competition for a bottle of Prosecco at next year’s event!
