£150 Council Tax rebate SCAM

Scam Warning from Havering Council. We are aware of fraudsters making calls in relation to the £150 Council Tax rebate introduced by the Government to help reduce the cost of energy bills.
The callers claim to be from ‘the council’ and ask residents for their bank details so that the Council could pay their £150 rebate direct to their account.
Do not provide your bank details to anyone calling you claiming to be from the Council’s Council Tax office and asking for your bank details. Havering Council will not be calling you to ask for these details. If you already pay your Council Tax by Direct Debit, you do not need to call Havering Council or do anything. The payment will be paid into the same bank account from which your Council Tax Direct Debit is taken.
We expect that most people who pay Council Tax by Direct Debit will receive this money between mid and late May. If there is a delay, we will update information on our website.
