Self-Isolating
It’s heart-warming to see so many residents in Havering springing into action to support the community and we ask that you continue to look after your neighbours, friends and family. However we strongly advise that anyone who wishes to offer their time to support a wider network of individuals across Havering, please do so by using a registered charity, community/faith group or Volunteer Centre.
Many spontaneous volunteering groups have formalised across the UK and we must stress caution when engaging with them. Due diligence checks are not of the same standard and there are safeguarding concerns for those volunteering, as well as those receiving support.
For example, Havering Volunteer Centre is a licensed and accredited Volunteer Centre who is the only organisation within Havering who can operate as a Volunteer Centre. We have strict protocols, years of experience and policies in place that ensure that volunteers are recruited, trained and treated in the appropriate way. The experience we hold means that we have the capacity to correctly ensure that the coordination of support is done via the correct channels to safeguard the individual and the person receiving support.
HVC are also adhering to London Borough of Havering’s resilience plan and are mobilising accordingly in line with them and our own protocols.
Please also note that HVC and other VCS groups are supporting members of the community who are self-isolating and can offer assistance in the following areas:
- Social telephone contact
- Light shopping
- Collection of medication
- Dog walking
Please pass on our contact details to any of your residents who may require additional support: 01708 922 214 or
We wish you well and of course extend our offer of support to you also.
Best Wishes

I am walking my dog in Langtons Park and Fielders Field. Apparently, in the wooded part, near the last entrance, more or less opposite the play area, there is a sort of covert. There appears to be some sort of waste in there. I have been advised, by another dogwalker, that drugs have been taken in there and there are discarded syringes. As this is near the children’s play area I thought I should report it.
Thanks Mary.
The Local SNT Police know about this area and patrol it when they are in the area.
I have reminded the Parks Police and the Local SNT teams again
I have also request the council send a clean up team.
